Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This policy explains what WeightPlot (“WeightPlot,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use weightplot.com and our free calorie counter, weight tracker, meal plans and workouts (together, the “app”), why we collect it, who it is shared with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have. If anything here is unclear, email us at [email protected].
The short version
- We collect what you enter to run the app: your account details, your body measurements and goal, and the weights, foods and workouts you log.
- We use it to give you your calorie goal, meal plans, workouts, progress and reminders. We do not sell your information, and we do not use your health information for advertising.
- By registering, you agreed to receive updates about the app by email. Every update email has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing does not affect your account.
- You can see and change your information in the app at any time, and ask us for a copy or to delete your account by emailing [email protected].
- The app gives general guidance, not medical advice.
Information you give us
Your account
When you create an account we collect your first name, your email address and a password. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form, so we cannot see it. We also record that you agreed to receive updates, the date and time you agreed, the wording you agreed to, and the page you signed up on, so we can show that you gave permission.
Your profile
To work out your plan, the app asks for:
- sex and year of birth
- height, current weight and goal weight
- activity level and how quickly you want to reach your goal
- eating style (for example everyday, vegetarian, vegan or pescatarian)
- exercise equipment you have, and whether you want low-impact exercise that is easier on the joints
- preferred units, your time zone, and whether and when you want reminder emails
What you log
The weigh-ins, foods, portions, meals, saved meals and workouts you record, with their dates. This is what lets the app show your progress, your calories for the day and your history.
Foods you add
If you add a food by hand or from a barcode, we store its name, brand, barcode and nutrition. Foods you add are shared with other members labeled “User Added” unless you choose to keep them private. Other members see the food, never your name or email. If you report a food as wrong, we record that you reported it so the same person cannot report it twice.
Messages you send us
If you email us, we keep the message and your email address so we can answer you.
Information collected automatically
- Where you came from. When you first visit, the app notes how you arrived (for example a Facebook post, a Google search or a campaign link) and saves it with your account if you sign up. We use it to understand which posts bring people to the app.
- Your IP address. To stop automated sign-ups, the app counts accounts created from each connection. It stores a scrambled code made from your IP address, not the address itself, and the code expires after one hour. Our web host may also keep standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested and time) for security and troubleshooting.
- Device information. Your browser tells us basic facts such as the type of device and browser, which the app uses to show the right install instructions and layout.
- Your camera, only when you scan a barcode. The barcode is read on your own phone or computer. Camera images are never sent to us or stored.
Cookies and app storage
The app uses a small number of cookies, all needed for it to work or to understand where members come from. We do not use advertising cookies in the app.
- Sign-in cookies (set by WordPress) keep you signed in. If you sign in from the app, they last up to six months so you do not have to sign in each time.
- stsc_known remembers that this device has signed in before, so it shows “Log in” first. It lasts one year.
- stsc_src remembers how you first arrived, for up to 30 days, so it can be saved with your account if you sign up.
- App storage. When you install the app on your phone or computer, your browser stores the app’s design files (styles, scripts, fonts and icons) so it opens quickly. Your personal information is not stored there.
You can delete cookies in your browser settings. If you delete the sign-in cookies, you will need to sign in again.
How we use your information
- To run the app: calculate your calorie goal, build your meal plans and workouts, show your progress, search foods and save what you log.
- To send account emails: your welcome email, password resets, and the reminder emails you choose in the app.
- To send updates about the app (new features, changes and tips for using it), because you agreed to receive them when you registered. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- To keep the app safe: stop spam sign-ups, review foods that members report, and protect against misuse.
- To improve the app: understand which features are used and which links bring people in.
- To meet legal obligations and respond to lawful requests.
Health-related information
Your weight, goal, food log and exercise are personal, and some laws treat them as health information. We use them only to provide the app to you. We do not sell them, we do not use them for advertising, and we do not share them except with the service providers that run the app for us, as described below, or where the law requires it.
WeightPlot is not a medical provider and is not covered by HIPAA. Calorie goals are calculated with the Mifflin-St Jeor equation and include built-in safety limits, but they are general guidance, not medical advice. Talk to your doctor before changing how you eat or exercise, especially if you are pregnant, have a medical condition or take medication.
Emails we send
- Account emails such as your welcome email and password resets. These are part of having an account.
- Reminder emails when you have not logged food or are off track for the day. You choose whether to get them, and when, on the Me tab in the app.
- Updates about the app. You agreed to these when you registered. Every update email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom; one click stops them, and we process it right away. Unsubscribing from updates does not close your account or stop the reminders you chose.
Who we share it with
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted advertising. We share it only as follows:
- Service providers that run the app for us under contract, such as our web hosting company, which stores the app and its database, and our email delivery provider (for example SendGrid), which sends our emails. They may use the information only to provide their service to us.
- Food databases. When you search for a food or scan a barcode, the search words or barcode number may be sent to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s FoodData Central (from our server) and to Open Food Facts (directly from your browser, so Open Food Facts receives your IP address with the search). Your name, email and logs are never sent.
- Other members see foods you add, labeled “User Added,” unless you keep them private. They never see your name, email, profile or logs.
- The law. We may disclose information if required by law, subpoena or court order, or to protect the safety, rights or property of our members, the public or us.
- A change of ownership. If the app is sold or merged with another business, your information may transfer to the new owner, who must keep honoring this policy or tell you about changes.
How long we keep it
- Your account, profile and logs are kept while your account is open, so your history is there when you come back.
- When your account is deleted, your profile, weigh-ins, food log, workouts, saved meals and private foods are deleted. Foods you shared with other members stay in the shared list without any link to you.
- The scrambled sign-up counter for your connection expires after one hour.
- We keep the record of your agreement to receive updates, and of any unsubscribe, for as long as we might need to show we had permission.
- Deleted information may remain in our host’s backups for a limited time until those backups are overwritten.
Your choices and rights
- See and change your profile and logs in the app at any time.
- Get a copy of your information, or delete your account, by emailing [email protected] from the address on your account. We will confirm the request and act on it within 30 days.
- Stop update emails with the unsubscribe link in any update email, or by emailing us.
- Stop reminder emails on the Me tab in the app.
Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and other states with privacy laws, you may also have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to get a copy you can take elsewhere, and to opt out of its sale or use for targeted advertising (we do neither). Washington and Nevada residents have specific rights over consumer health data, including the right to know who it is shared with and to have it deleted. To use any of these rights, email us. If we decline your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer with “Appeal” in the subject, and we will respond within 45 days. You may use an authorized agent; we may ask them for proof of permission. We will not treat you differently for using your rights.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we use your information to provide the app you signed up for (contract), to send updates you agreed to (consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing), and to keep the app secure (legitimate interests). You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or move your information, object to its use, and complain to your local data protection authority.
Security
The app runs over an encrypted (HTTPS) connection, passwords are stored only in hashed form, and access to the database is limited to the people and providers who need it to run the app. No online service can promise perfect security, so please use a password you do not use anywhere else, and tell us right away at [email protected] if you think your account has been misused.
Children
WeightPlot is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, email [email protected] and we will delete it. For anyone under 18, the app does not set weight-loss or weight-gain goals and only helps them keep their current weight; teens should use the app with a parent or guardian and talk to a doctor first.
Where your information is stored
The app is run from the United States, and your information is stored and processed in the United States. If you use it from another country, your information will be transferred to the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those where you live.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also tell members by email or in the app before it takes effect.
